Why would you book a flight before your visa's decision? That is literally the first thing UKVI tells you not to do when applying. What does it mean? It means you're cancelling your ticket, rightfully so.

Why are you being an ass? While they tell you that, many people can’t afford to book short notice flights and she booked a flight for well after the window a student visa should be returned. Of course it’s a risk, but usually a low risk. This response is completely useless.

I’m not canceling my ticket as I can’t haha. I booked a flight because it was $245 from the US to London. My school said I was fine as I did my application and biometrics with 5 weeks till I left. They only take 3 weeks from the biometrics appointment. Just didn’t expect my application to only be looked at on day 10

The guideline is 15 WD and that is only for the HO to make the decsion. Not only does tne HO gets absolutely swamped with student visas right now and nothing is guaranteed, but the guideline is only for the decision to be made so it could take another week or 2 for the VAC to process it and get it couriered back to you. This happens every year and there are multiple posts of people freaking out because the have flights and are still waiting to get their passport in their hand.

The website says the 3 weeks is from the biometrics appointment.I understand that’s not including getting the passport back but I do have 1 day air and was told it would be shipped out the say a decision was made as long as there is Times I don’t leave for another 3 weeks so there is grace time.

I had the same thing happen to me. I sent all my biometrics and paperwork on July 9th and then received that same email on the 17th. I haven’t heard anything since, but I read online that the application decision by UKVI shouldn’t take more than 5 days. VFS said to me that you won’t get another update until UKVI sends your paperwork back to VFS. Such a stressful process :,)

dippy222

Well today would be 4WD for you! I hope this goes well for you too. My biometrics was the 8th and they’ve just now sent it over ugh. But yours was sent on a weekend and they aren’t open on weekends which is weird. Just like mine was sent over at 1am when the offices are closed

badgal0623

I thought it was really strange too that it was sent to me on a Saturday. Maybe the email has a 24 hour delay process? Let me know if you receive an answer anytime soon!!

dippy222

Maybe it is automatic which would make sense why I was emailed at 1am. So it could of been sent of yesterday. My friend who got SMS updates said she received the text that a decision has been made 6 hours after she got her passport back. And you do the same for me please! Intended moving date is august 13 so I’m a bit stressed

badgal0623

I get texts as well. I got the text the same time I received the email, but haven’t received any since. How long did the process take for her to get the visa decision and her passport back? I am in the same stressful situation :( my lease starts at the beginning of august so I was hoping to be there so I’m not just spending money on a place I’m not even living in

dippy222

She said about 10 WD for everything. She never got the email we did however and only got the text about the decision being made after getting her passport . Let’s hope they make a decision soon for both of us. Got a plane ticket for august 13 for only $245

No one is answering my question and giving me info I already know: why did I get this email at 1AM est (since it’s automated could it be delayed with the wrong date, ect) and what does it mean.

It means that VSF Finally actually gave your application to UKVI. VSF doesn’t actually process the applications, they simply consolidate your paperwork, facilitate the biometrics portion and then forward all the necessary info to UKVI to actually review and approve/deny your application. It’s my understanding that the timeline they give you includes this VSF processing time (aka starting from your biometrics appointment date) but as others have mentioned above, those timelines are more of a guide. It’s entirely possible that UKVI could make a decision on your visa within the next couple of days. But impossible to say for sure.
